Dominating Online

Teaching you how to make a killing in internet marketing.

This is a short guide I wrote that shows you how to get hosting for $0.01 on http://hostgator.com

How to Get Hosting For $0.01

When webmasters ask about the various ways they could employ to get their sites noticed by other users, and included by the search engines, something many of them miss is getting their sites `reviewed`. There are several good reasons why it is a good idea to have your site reviewed.

1. Your link could be a “dofollow” which means you get some `juice` by the search engines, so this backlink has some real value.

2. If you have something to sell you might get a sale or two from your visitors who come to your site in offer to provide you with a review.

3. This really is the most important reason, you hopefully get some good advice about how your website could be improved. Constructive criticism is most valuable, whether it comes from other webmasters or/and users. How often have you visited a site and thought “I think this or that looks out of place” or “The color scheme just isn’t right” or perhaps “There are too many links to pages before I get where I want to go”?

By asking others to review your site you should get a range of opinions about what is working – and of course what isn’t.

Everyone has their own personal preferences. I, for instance, don`t normally like very dark themes, particularly black, though sometimes a certain site does suit that color scheme. Some people prefer category menus to be across the top of the page, while others like to see the menu down one of the sides. Listen to what your reviewers have to say, whether they are web designers themselves, or just simply Internet users. Any final decisions have to be yours but it pays to listen. Where can you seek advice from others? You will find some forums where webmasters are actively encouraged to ask for a review. You might see a folder and all you need to do is post a link to your site and provide a few details about it. Then hopefully the review replies will pour in.

Sometimes a site will have to meet certain criteria before you can post the link. For instance a site may have to have been `live` for say a minimum period of three months. A site can`t be in `construction` mode, it has to be up and running. It has to have some real content, not just full of advertisements. There are certain topics that may not be allowed, usually hate or racial, or weapons, or anything normally believed to be illegal or inappropriate. Apart from forums other sites also exist to provide reviews of newer sites. So, if you think your creation is worthy of a review by professionals, or even your peers, then feel free to submit it to be looked at. You might have to send an email in with your link, or submit online.

Above all, don’t take any criticism personally. No reviewer personally knows you. They are there to help you, so be prepared to listen, and if you go along with what is said then make the necessary changes. On occasions I’ve posted my site on a forum, got it reviewed, made changes to it and posted elsewhere and found many more people approve of the new looking site, so it really does work.

List of CPA Networks

So now that you know how to get accepted into CPA Networks, I will tell you my favorite ones. This list includes only reliable CPA Networks used by my friends, myself, and thousands of other affiliates. It is extremely unlikely that one of these network scam you, or even provide less than excellent customer service. I don’t want to put links just yet so you will have to make a google search for them. Here’s my list:

* Ads4Dough
* Azoogle
* Copeac
* Cpa Empire
* Clickbooth
* Primary Ads
* Hydra Media
* ModernClick
* Jar Media
* PepperJam
* Motive
* OfferWeb
* Flux Ads
* Revenue Loop
* XY7
* NeverBlueAds
* MarketLeverage
* CPA Storm
* CPA Lead

I suggest you take 1 or 2 hours from your time and go sign up to all of those networks. To go faster, I recommend the tool RobotForm. It fills forms in only one click. A big time saver.

An interview with Jason Akatiff aka Smaxor from Ads4Dough. A lot of good information on what affiliate networks want from you, how to get started, what mindset to adopt and things like that.

The first step when entering the CPA business, is of course, creating an account with a CPA network. This is my way of doing things. While other people use their own methods, I find that this is the most believable, hence, the optimum way to do things. There are two steps in the process of getting accepted.
STEP 1: signing up with the CPA network (sending your application)

STEP 2: calling them (VERY IMPORTANT!)

While you do not have to call all CPA networks, you do have to call networks like Hydra and NeverBlue, as these are the big players in the game. It has always been a delight for me to work with Hydra. I look at other networks’ offers, and I look at Hydra’s offers, and after comparing them I always come to the conclusion that Hydra is in a league of its own. The first network I got signed up with is JAR Media. I was very happy that they accepted my application without chatting with an affiliate manager (the person from the CPA network responsible for you) or without calling them… but after I got accepted into Hydra, I saw how the offers from JAR were of poorer quality.

This is exactly what I complete in the application form, and for the sake of this demonstration I’ll use Hydra’s.

  • Fill in N/A for company if you’re an individual
  • Leave state empty if you’re not in the US
  • Website URL: http://itdependsontheoffer.com (YES, this is exactly what I put in everytime, no exceptions)
  • Website Description: I’m a PPC search marketer. I bring traffic through PPC search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. (what I specifically wrote after this at Hydra was that I was looking for a network that doesn’t use DirectTrack -a very popular platform for CPA networks- and that would place my tracking pixels). You could also say that you practice media buying and you have access to a lot of traffic.
  • Monthly Unique Visitors: 75 000 (think that if you’re working with PPC, your visitors are your impressions, and 75 000 impressions is not a big number at all)
  • Publishing Channels: Search – PPC (you can also complete Display – Banners and Display – Text Links if you said that you do media buying)
  • Tax classification: Individual
  • Tax ID or SSN: leave empty if you’re not in the US
  • Payment method: PayPal if available. If not, wire, and if you really don’t want to use wire, just select it, put dashes all over the wire-specific forms and talk to them about letting you use PayPal

Now for the call, which is as important as the application, even more with Hydra. First thing after they answer and the person introduces his or herself, you introduce yourself: “Hello, my name is Andrei Popa and I’ve just submitted my application”. If you have a foreign name, like me, you’ll probably have to spell it. They’ll ask you most of what you already completed in your application and some other things.

  • How long have you been doing CPA?
    A couple of months
  • What other networks are you with?
    Ads4Dough, NeverBlue, JAR Media
  • How many monthly visitors do you get?
    75 000
  • What’s your (monthly) advertising budget?
    Anywhere from $1000 to $3000 a month. If they ask about your daily budget, you say “$100 per day”.
  • What offers have you been succesful with in the past?
    Email and Zip submits, Weight Loss and Credit related offers.

…and that’s the call. You’ll probably be surprised at how easy it will be, and they will accept you. Even if you’re not from the U.S., don’t fear calling them, it’s the one step that you have to do in order to get accepted by the bigger networks, and it’s totally worth it.

CPA Tutorial (pt. 2): What are CPA offers?

CPA offers are the things that you literally promote. Physically, an offer is a link that you direct people to. When they click the link and complete all the necessary data for the action, you get paid.

There are different kinds of offers. The ones that pay the least are email and zip submits, ranging from about $1 to $1.75. All the user has to do to complete the action is input their email or zip code. Other offers are harder to classify, and are generally classified by categories like “Weight Loss”, “Credit Score”, “Insurance” – the main theme of the offer. The payout on these other offers ranges from anything above $1 to $60 or more. On some offers, like credit reports, the user may have to enter their SSN, or their credit card number. Others may require him to complete long, 3 page forms. What this all does is that it increases the difficulty of the offer for the user, but also increases the payout for the affiliate.

You’re generally not going to promote Email and Zip submits through PPC, because your CPC would have to be really, really low to make it profitable, somewhere between 1c and 5c, but PPC and other promotion methods will be covered in future articles.

The best way to find out how all this looks like is just to sign up to a CPA network. I highly recommend Hydra Network. They’re great to work with, they don’t use directtrack (which is a pain in the ass platform for people that know what I’m talking about), they’ll place tracking pixels for you and they have the most awesome offers.

It’s good to know a few offer types when signing up with a CPA network. When calling them (yes, this is mandatory with big networks, and it’s not a big deal), they’ll ask you “What offers were you successful with in the past?”. I’ve never said I’m just getting into CPA when calling a network, I think it’s pretty dumb to do that – it just ups your chances of not getting in.

This is Hydra’s list of offer types. Choose some of these when calling them. I always include email/zip submits when talking to them.

A CPA network is an affiliate network with a twist. CPA is an acronym that has two meanings: cost per acquisition and cost per action. CPA as in the expression “CPA networks” means cost per action.

A CPA network works like this: you have the affiliate (the one promoting the offers), the merchant (the one putting up the offers), the offers (the things that you promote) and, finally, the CPA network (which is the bridge between the affiliate and the merchant).

Every time a third-party does the necessary actions on an offer that he landed on through you, the affiliate, you get paid. How much? Well, the CPA can range from $1 to $80. How is this better than a standard affiliate network? Well, what do you think is easier – making someone give you their zip code or their credit card number?

Each customer you refer and get paid for is called a “lead”. What you’re doing is practically referring potential customers to companies. This method of advertising is better than pay per click and others because of two reasons: the affiliate (or publisher in the case of PPC) gets more money and the merchant pays on a specific action, not on hoping to get an action. Not all leads are targeted, but the more specific a CPA offer is, the harder it is to get an untargetted lead: no one will fill out a 15 field form just for the sake of it – they have to be genuinely interested in the offer. This is generally none of the affiliate’s concern, it’s largely the merchant’s problem.
